We’ve been bad and we are sorry

Hey guys, we apologize for the silence on this blog in recent months, apart from our April Fool’s stunt earlier this month. (Wait, you did realize it was an April Fool’s joke, did you? DID you?! (;)

We will make this place more lively from now on and that is a promise!

It’s been a crazy past few months meeting with awesome people during DEMO Asia and SXSW 2012. Not to mention some random meetups and chats with you amazing GameMaki players out there. We always believe it’s you guys who make GameMaki awesome, because GameMaki wouldn’t be GameMaki without all your amazing, quirky claims!

DEMO Asia 2012

Keith on the DEMO stage.

DEMO Asia 2012 marked our official public launch, with our chief Keith Ng heading up the DEMO stage welding an Angry Birds plush toy … which he later flung on the stage. Life is where your games should be at, and not tossing colourful birds at pigs on your mobile screen. (; After all, reality is where the best experiences lie, and we want to bring them to you through GameMaki!

South By Southwest 2012

Brenda, Jesslyn and Keith at SXSW.

Keith, Jesslyn and I made our way up to Austin for the yearly South By Southwest conference last month. For Keith, it was his second time there while for Jesslyn and myself, it was a completely new experience.

The atmosphere exuded at the event was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. The crowd was overwhelming in more ways than one. (Which possibly accounted for the ridiculously long lines at the pass collection counters and the missing-in-action shuttle buses – familiar stories to anyone at SXSW this year.) We certainly felt the love when we exhibited at the Interactive tradeshow. Thanks to all who popped by to speak to us and let’s all keep in touch!

——-

During the past few months, we’ve gathered loads of feedback from all of you amazing folk – about what you’d like to see in GameMaki, your opinions on our app and what can be improved. We’ve been listening and are working hard behind the scenes now to bring you a more improved GameMaki come mid-2012!

We’ll share more about our findings in our later posts. Stay tuned!

Press Release – GameMaki launches BETA version

GameMaki’s web application released in BETA, with a mobile application soon to follow.

Today, Socialico launches GameMaki, an application for users to “Suggest and claim challenges with their friends to explore cool stuff.” In GameMaki, users recommend things to do and turn them into fun challenges for their friends to claim. In turn, users claim other challenges to earn points and compete with one another. Challenges can also be grouped into a single game, or ʻmakiʼ, such as a wine game comprising just wine suggestions.

The application adds a game layer atop making and doing recommendations and makes what is usually a verbal exchange fun and engaging.

“We are not a location-centric application,” says Keith, co-founder and CEO of Socialico. “GameMaki focuses on activities, while location is vital but remains a secondary component. For example, I can challenge anyone to run 20km in under an hour and it need not be tagged with a location.”

Keith adds, “Suggestions are an integral part of all our lives. With GameMaki, we want to facilitate quality suggestions that are easy to make and find, and in turn make life more fun and interesting, starting with cool suggestions in SXSW itself.”

GameMaki will be exhibited in the Singapore Pavilion at the SXSW tradeshow on 14-17th March. It is available on the web at http://gamemaki.com. A mobile application is presently in the works.
