A note from an appreciative player!

When our Head Chef decided to put up the “Draw a sketch of me” challenge a few months back, he certainly wasn’t prepared for the different interpretations of himself.

So, when he laid eyes on Chien Yee’s claim yesterday, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Wow, she’s made me look so fit!” said the Head Chef.

Yes folks, our Head Chef is in reality, rather pudgy … which is why you usually see most of his head and nothing else. (Even the GameMaki Team is struggling to understand why the Head Chef looks that way because … how can anyone even get chubby on sushi?!)

Either way, she’s made the Head Chef a very happy man. And the team, even happier!

Fan drawing!

Thanks for the love and support, Chien Yee! And yes, we’ll strive to bring the Android version out to you soon! :D

Until then, folks … keep sending those drawings in! If you make the Head Chef happy again, we’ll feature you on this blog and that is a promise!

Po-po-po-poker face! Po-po-po-poker face!

All right, girls and boys. Today, we’re going to be talking about Poker.

No, wait … wait. Don’t run away! We’re definitely not promoting gambling here. (Well, we didn’t say you’ve got to play with money!)

Rather, we think it’s a great game for you to play with your friends anytime, anywhere. Just whip out a deck of cards and you’re good to go. No fuss, no heavy boards or bulky game pieces to carry around. And well, if you’re seeking some extra thrill – you can always use a bag of peanuts as currency. (;

Presenting … the Online Poker Maki.

The Online Poker Maki

With this Maki, Poker is no longer just a card game. If Poker was tricky before, it’s become even more challenging. Instead of merely winning, we’re now challenging you to achieve really specific things – like win 4 games in a row (whoa!), or play poker for 6 straight hours of Poker (remember to have your meals and use the bathroom, please!).

Well, just remember that winning is not always everything – but it’s the experience of picking up a new game that’s fun!

So, what the heck is Poker?
Poker is a game of bluff where the aim is to win all the bets accumulated after each round. This is achieved by having the best hand of cards or making others stop playing and ‘fold’ their cards. The interesting question is how to make people ‘fold’? It is all about understanding how your opponents play. This means that the round or bluff starts with the first bets, and that is what makes the game so exciting and intellectual. A person may seem conservative but you never know if he is preparing for a big bluff. Texas hold’em is the most popular version of poker.

Check out this guide to get the low-down on what this game is all about.

Disclaimer: This Maki feature and blog post is done in conjunction with our partner, Online Poker. And yes, this is completely legit. (:

See us on TV this Sunday!

EDIT: Just received news that our feature has been postponed to next Sunday (10th April 2011).

GameMaki will be featured on the TV news this Sunday (3rd April 2011) in Singapore. It will be telecast at 10pm on Channel 8, or 11pm on Channel U. The segment will be about three minutes long. Do check us out then!

It was an exhausting day of filming for all of us yesterday. The media crew arrived bright and early in the morning. As the filming crew went around setting things up, news presenter Tung Soo Hua gave us a run-down on what to expect and how the filming will proceed. On the other hand, our co-founder and CEO Keith had worries of his own – perfecting his Mandarin. The dude was practically in a state of panic over how to describe GameMaki and the social gaming scene in any language other than English.

The filming commenced with an interview with our co-founder and CTO Damon Widjaja. This was then followed with Keith’s attempts at articulating the local social apps development scene in Mandarin. (We must say, he did pretty well! Kudos to him.)

The duo then proceeded to do a run-through of GameMaki‘s features for the news crew.

Later on, the rest of our humble headquarters was pretty much turned upside down as the filming crew proceeded to grab scenes from almost almost every aspect. Our developer Steve programming furiously on his large monitor screen, our UX girls Brenda and Jesslyn working fervently on concept drawings and web graphics for a page revamp, and the other half of the team attempting a skit to illustrate the workings of our earlier application, FameMark.

It was an overall enjoyable experience. Thanks to Mediacorp for the interview and feature.

So, folks in Singapore – please switch on your tellys this Sunday night to check out what we do. We can’t wait!
