We’ve been bad and we are sorry

Hey guys, we apologize for the silence on this blog in recent months, apart from our April Fool’s stunt earlier this month. (Wait, you did realize it was an April Fool’s joke, did you? DID you?! (;)

We will make this place more lively from now on and that is a promise!

It’s been a crazy past few months meeting with awesome people during DEMO Asia and SXSW 2012. Not to mention some random meetups and chats with you amazing GameMaki players out there. We always believe it’s you guys who make GameMaki awesome, because GameMaki wouldn’t be GameMaki without all your amazing, quirky claims!

DEMO Asia 2012

Keith on the DEMO stage.

DEMO Asia 2012 marked our official public launch, with our chief Keith Ng heading up the DEMO stage welding an Angry Birds plush toy … which he later flung on the stage. Life is where your games should be at, and not tossing colourful birds at pigs on your mobile screen. (; After all, reality is where the best experiences lie, and we want to bring them to you through GameMaki!

South By Southwest 2012

Brenda, Jesslyn and Keith at SXSW.

Keith, Jesslyn and I made our way up to Austin for the yearly South By Southwest conference last month. For Keith, it was his second time there while for Jesslyn and myself, it was a completely new experience.

The atmosphere exuded at the event was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. The crowd was overwhelming in more ways than one. (Which possibly accounted for the ridiculously long lines at the pass collection counters and the missing-in-action shuttle buses – familiar stories to anyone at SXSW this year.) We certainly felt the love when we exhibited at the Interactive tradeshow. Thanks to all who popped by to speak to us and let’s all keep in touch!

——-

During the past few months, we’ve gathered loads of feedback from all of you amazing folk – about what you’d like to see in GameMaki, your opinions on our app and what can be improved. We’ve been listening and are working hard behind the scenes now to bring you a more improved GameMaki come mid-2012!

We’ll share more about our findings in our later posts. Stay tuned!

Get stuff done with SelfSpark + GameMaki!

We hosted our inaugural Get Stuff Done Day at our HQ on Thursday. (Well, technically the event itself isn’t inaugural, but … it’s our first! (;)

The awesome folk at GSD Day 2012
Some of the awesome folk at GSD Day.

Get Stuff Done Day is an initiation by SelfSpark, which hopes it will soon be adopted around the globe.

GSD Days are fun, free, and open-source personal growth days designed to enhance productivity, annihilate backlogs, and destroy procrastination.

It’s like going to the gym for productivity.

This particular GSD Day run was also a gamification experiment by us, as we wanted to see for ourselves the potential of gamification to motivate people to get things done. Well, we weren’t disappointed!

11 awesome folk showed up at our doorstep bright and early, eager to get started. We briefed them on how GameMaki worked, and left them to set challenges for themselves to accomplish what they had to do. In between, they had their hyper moments, firing Nerf guns at one another and … dancing. Just check out the video below. (;

On the whole, the outcome were positive! Based on observations from the official game on GameMaki (excluding hyper-enthusiastic members of our team who also wanted to be a part of GSD Day), 9 participants made a total of 30 claims – which adds up to roughly 3.33 tasks accomplished per participant. (The remaining 2 weren’t actively logging their #wins, probably too absorbed in what they were doing!)

The top scorer was Peaksha with a total of 120 points. Unsurprisingly, she was also the only one who bagged all four available badges for the day.

On top of that, stats from SelfSpark founder James Norris via his post on the GSD Facebook Page indicated an average productivity of 5.8 (on a scale of 1-7) and a +47% average productivity boost.

Great job, folks!

We’ll be looking forward to the next Get Stuff Done Day!

Change of booth location at Echelon 2011!

Due to space constraints and some technical issues, we have been relocated to booth #17 for Echelon 2011 (starting tomorrow!) from our previous #15.

We will still be your right when you first walk through the entrance, just a stone’s throw away from Nokia’s booth at the extreme corner along the glass window. It’s easy to spot us, because of our giant live-feed bearing projector screen.

See you in 9 hours!

Post-Echelon 2011

Hey guys! Us folks at GameMaki would like to that you for supporting us at our booth during Echelon 2011 last week. We had a great time talking to you guys, and we’ve certainly met many interesting people.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the Echelon 2011-related challenges we’ve rolled out too. Kudos to the other startups who’ve taken part in this. This wouldn’t have been possible without you guys!

Without further ado, I shall present photos!
